It sounds strange, but patients at an Indiana hospital are permitted to toast their recovery with a cocktail.

Parkview Ortho Hospital in Fort Wayne allows patients or family members to bring in alcohol — with their doctor’s permission.

The policy is surprising to some in the health care industry, but hospital officials said they follow doctors’ orders when it comes to alcohol.

Patients are limited to a drink or two per day, as long as they aren’t taking any narcotics.

The hospital also offers steak dinners.
